Beinfield Architecture and Fuss & O’Neill are engaged in the revitalization and redevelopment of the 55 Elm Street block. The existing 55 Elm Street building was previously used for governmental offices, including the Attorney General and State Treasurer’s office. With the move of those offices to the capitol building, the historic and architecturally significant structure is poised for revitalization. The site occupies a prominent location on Pulaski circle and facing Bushnell Park, which position the revitalization of the historic structure as an impetus for the revival of the Bushnell South area.
Beinfield Architecture has been involved in the vision and program development for the site, including the renovation of the historic structure and annex, as well as the future development on the block. The plan takes careful consideration of interior courtyards and pedestrian through-block connections, which will be assets to development on the block as a whole. These through-block connections will also enhance the walkability of the Bushnell South area.
The existing building will be re-programmed with a combination of 75 extended-stay hotel rooms and 110 residential units. These uses have similar space and amenity requirements, and their combination will create a vibrant community well-positioned to serve the market in this area. On the existing building renovations, Beinfield has design oversight over the interior and exterior architecture, and will be performing interior design services for the amenity and common spaces within the existing building.
